On the 28th of June ‘The King Of Pop’ Michael Jackson was pronounced dead. The whole world was shocked to know that he had died so suddenly. I guess it wasn’t so sudden because doctors had been saying for years how sick Michael was but I didn’t think that he would have died now. All of Hollywood has been affected because superstars like Beyonce and Justin Timberlake had Michael Jackson as an idol. Even I had him as an idol because I thought that if I could set a goal to become as great a dancer as him that I would get my dancing levele to high standards. It was really weird because a few weeks ago my mum gave me her ‘Thriller’ record and her ‘Off The Wall’ record because I had been telling her how much I love him. Last year we also brought the Thriller 25th Anniversary CD so now I have my own little collection. My favourite songs by Michael Jackson are ‘Black or White’ and ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’.

Michael Jackson is still my idol and even though he is dead, he is still alive in my heart!

So what’s your favourite Michael Jackson song?

I think animals are amazing. They’re all so differnt and unique and they have a power to just make you love them! For example, dogs are loyal, smart, playful, cuddly and always friendly to their owner. I can never stay mad at my dogs because they have this affect on me when they just stare at me and start crying when you tell them off. I love my dogs because when I’m upset, I go to my dogs for comfort because I know that they will just stay with me until I feel better. Dogs arn’t the only awesome animals, Cats are cute because they just sit in your lap and always make you feel loved. Even animals like orangatangs are gorgeous becaus eeven though you don’t hold them like a cat or play with them like a dog, they show you their little faces with their cute little smiles and you just want to melt!

My favourite animals are Dugongs, Elephants, Orangatangs and Gorillas!

What are Your favourite animals?

On Monday I had my Parent Teacher Interview. I had been preparing for that day for about a week so I was completely confident! On my cue cards I wrote about my Maths struggles, how I am confident with my literacy, and how the rope bridges activity really helped me with my teamwork. I was going to tell Ms Paladino about how the weekly quote that she gives us helps with my learning because it motivates me to become a better learner.

NONE OF THIS WENT ACCORDING TO PLAN!

THIS IS HOW IT ALL WENT…

On Monday after school I decided to go with my dad to take my puppy to the vet. The appointment was at 3:30 so I thought it would be over by about 3:50 (how long is it supposed to take to give a puppy an injection) and I could come home, get changed and get my cue cards.

The vet trip went until 4:00 (my interview was at 4:10) so I had no time to go home, get changed and get my cue cards (plus I absolutely STUNK of my dog). I rang my mum to ask if I had any time and she said “NO!” So my dad drove me to school and I was freaking out because I didn’t have my cue cards with me and I didn’t have deodorant or anything to cover up that disgusting smell. When we got to school I searched my dad’s car for a pen and paper. I ended up finding a permanent texta and some paper that he uses for ordering vegetables at the farm! When I sat down outside of the classroom I quickly started scribbling down dot points of what I wanted to say.

At 4:10 I knocked on the door to say that it was my interview time. When Ms Paladino called me in, my mum and I went in. My goals, strengths, and difficulties went fine (not as smooth as I had hoped) but when she asked me about my approaches to learning, I realised that I had forgotten to write about how much the quote helps me! I had a mental blank and it took me about a minute to answer!

The overall interview went alright but not as good as I had hoped!

This week in our PCYP session the athletes taught us about tobacco and smoking cigarettes. Wade, Jonathon, Moonia and Matt told us what chemicals are in cigarettes and where they can also be found. It was disgusting to find out that all those chemicals were going into your body after just one cigarette! Some of those chemicals were Arsenic (rat poison), Toluene (nailpolish remover), Cadmium (batteries) and many other horrible chemicals. This lesson taught me to NEVER EVER smoke (not that I would smoke) and to never put my body through that.

The past week we have been learning about percentages. I havn’t particularly enjoyed this one because as you might know, Maths is not one of my best/favourite subjects. I have found this topic quite difficult because I get muddled up when it comes to… EVERYTHING!

A percentage means per 100. For example if you went to a shop and you found a pair of jeans that you just HAD to have. You then realised that they cost $100! You’re not willing to pay that much so you sadly turn the other way. All of a sudden a red banner catches your eye. You read what it says and you feel like someone just wacked you with the happy stick! The banner says 40% off all denim items and you leap for joy (not literally because it would be really wierd). If you work out the new price of the jeans then you would get $60. SCORE!!!!!! You grab the jeans in your size and rush to the cash register. You leave the shop in a happy mood. You just saved yourself $40 and feel good that you now have a great outfit prepared for that awesome party tonight!

I told my parents about this terms High Flyer and how I am striving to earn it. They looked at the activities and were impressed at the standard that us year 7’s (and a few year 6’s!) have to achieve.

Dad: “I really think that you can achieve this just like term 1. I was very proud of you”

Mum: “I can’t wait to come for the interview that YOU have organised!”

In our art lessons this past week we have been doing abstract art inspired by the work of Wasilii Kandinsky. We had to create a heap of circles which all had a differnt radii (which went with our maths work on using compass’) . We were given a choice of black or white A3 coloured paper where we had to stick our coloured circles on. They had to have a slit in them so they could interconnect which made it look abstract. We made up a name for our artwork to explain what it represents. I named mine ‘happy chappy’  because the colours that I chose were bright and happy colours (that’s how I think of them). The colours that I chose were fluoro green, pink, yellow and blue. One that stood out to me was called the Victory Road (I can’t beleive I’m saying this) It was in the Crows colours and It was a path. Even though I hate the Crows I have to admit that this was a very good and creative idea. Good Job everybody

Today we got the booklet that explains our tasks that we have to achieve to become a Term 2 High Flyer. I like the tasks for this term better then last term because they seem like a bit more fun. For example the task where you can make an art piece or a narrative, they are things that I really like to do so I could easily accomplish that one. We have to do that one out of school hours (along with many others) which is good because sometimes when you’re bored and you can’t think of anything to do you could do that activity. My overall thought on it is that the teachers (and those 3 students) did a great jobin improving the High Flyer!

I think the challenge was trying to explain the quote. I don’t know why I found this so hard. I found it interesting to see that most of the people that had the same quote as me chose Barack Obama an an example. At the start I found this task very difficult but when Ms P showed us her example it got easier.

“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson. (sorry you can’t see the quote in the picture)

I think that this quote means to set your own examples and not always follow like a sheep. It stood out to me because I think that it is a prime example of leadership. I believe Hilary Clinton is a great example of this quote. I think it would’ve taken a huge amount of courage to step up and run for first female president of the U.S.A. Even though she did not make the presidency, I’m sure other women will learn from Hilary’s act of leadership and take the lead in even the smallest things like Leader of the local football team or even canteen manager.
